Efficient Wireless Stationary Bidirectional Charging Solutions for Light-Duty Vehicles

WiBiCharge will design, develop, and demonstrate the next generation of wireless, stationary, bidirectional charging solutions for light-duty vehicles (LDVs), directly supporting Europe’s transition to zero-emission mobility. The project will deliver interoperable, safe, and efficient (>90%) wireless charging systems that integrate seamlessly with the grid and renewable energy sources, accelerating the roll-out of smart and user-friendly charging infrastructure.
WiBiCharge combines technical, societal, and market innovations to overcome barriers to large-scale deployment. It will advance ground and vehicle assemblies, standardised communication protocols, and integrated metering solutions, validated in three European pilot sites: Stockholm (Sweden), Dachau (Germany), and Milan (Italy). These pilots will test robustness under diverse urban and environmental conditions, including weather, dust, and real-world obstructions. A strong focus on societal readiness ensures that user acceptance, safety, and inclusiveness are integrated from the outset through surveys, workshops, and co-creation with citizens and stakeholders.
Beyond technology, the project will develop scalable business models, a Standardisation Roadmap, and Readiness Guidelines to support replication across Europe. A Reference Group which includes local pilot external experts will help validate outputs, while engagement with initiatives such as 2ZERO, BRIDGE, CCAM, and Mission Cities maximises impact and alignment with EU priorities.
By combining robust innovation, stakeholder engagement, and exploitation strategies, WiBiCharge will accelerate EU-wide adoption of wireless bidirectional charging, reduce uncertainties on interoperability and societal uptake, and contribute directly to the European Green Deal, Fit-for-55, and 2ZERO KPIs.
