EBRT2030 new publication: Total Cost of Ownership of battery electric buses across European countries
The EBRT2030 project has released a new study on the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of battery electric buses across Europe (EU27 + UK + Türkiye).
The analysis provides a detailed review of assumptions and data used in the literature for TCO calculations, along with country-specific estimates for different types of buses. Results are compared with diesel bus costs to highlight where electrification is already financially competitive.
The study finds that the financial case for electrification is strongest in Finland, France, Belgium, and Greece, where TCO values range between €750,000 and €850,000 and diesel prices are high (around €1.70 per liter). Conversely, the weakest competitiveness is observed in Malta, Bulgaria, and Cyprus.
These findings are expected to be highly relevant for transport operators, academics, policymakers, and financial investors supporting the transition to zero-emission buses.
