Monitoring the Just Transition of automotive regions in the EU
The high-level seminar “Monitoring the Just Transition of automotive regions in the EU” will take place on 22 May 2024 from 14:30 to 17:30 CET at the Committee of the Regions (CoR), 101 rue Belliard, 1040 Brussels, room JDE 52, or online via Microsoft Teams (the link to access the meeting will be sent to all registered participants a few days before the meeting).
In light of EU legislation to reach zero-emission road mobility by 2035, the Automotive Regions Alliance of the CoR launches this initiative to develop concepts and ideas for measuring these regions’ future transition.
This seminar has the following objectives:
- to present the CoR commissioned study “State of play and future challenges of automotive regions”, a potential “Just Transition Monitoring Programme” and its implication on the regions;
- to show examples on how regions are measuring the transformation and what we can learn from it;
- to engage with leading representatives of the European Commission (DG GROW) on how this can help to come forward with an EU-wide monitoring tool that can be the basis for the 2025 monitoring report the Commission is required to come forward with (see Recital 16 and Article 15 of Regulation (EU) 2019/631 as recently amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/851);
- to discuss with relevant Directorate-Generals (DGs) of the European Commission how to address the challenges of the just transition of automotive regions today and in the future.
At the end of this interactive seminar, it is suggested that we arrive at a better understanding of what a mapping and monitoring exercise of the automotive regions in the years to come could look like.
