CORE

CO2 REduction for Long Distance Transport

  • Framework: FP7
  • Type: IP
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Category: Electrification (FEV/PHEV) and Optimisation and Energy Efficiency
  • End Date: 31/12/2015
  • Vehicles: Trucks
  • Website: www.co2re.eu

The objective of the project is to demonstrate a substantial reduction of CO2 emissions and fulfilling EuroVI emission legislation.

By using novel technology and combine them in flexible engines with high level of precise control, performance advantages will be achieved with improved emissions and fuel consumption. The research will focus on efficient air management, combustion and control for the diesel engine, together with optimizing the powertrain layout utilizing electric hybridization, downsizing and alternative fuels.

Research to the after treatment system is included to further improve the powertrain efficiency. This will be combined improvements to the base engine friction for developing highly efficient drivelines for long distance transports.

CORE is divided into five sub-projects, three that will focus on different engine technologies. These activities are supported by two cross divisional projects where friction reduction and improvements to the NOx after treatment are studied. The project results will be assessed by vehicle simulations. The results will be evaluated for legislation test cycles and with real life drive cycles.
