New milestone achieved for eBRT2030 project: Scania’s First eBRT Bus in Colombia completes homologation

A new milestone has been reached for the eBRT2030 project, part of the 2Zero portfolio: the first fully electric bus developed under the project has completed its homologation process in Colombia. This marks a significant step toward demonstrating how next-generation electric BRT systems can operate in demanding urban environments such as Bogotá.

The vehicle, built on a 12-metre 4×2 Scania chassis produced in Poland and finished locally by Busscar, is now officially approved for operation on Colombian roads. Colombia is still refining its regulatory framework for heavy-duty electric vehicles, and the process required close coordination with national authorities; this approval helps establish a precedent that may facilitate future electric-bus deployments in the country.

With homologation complete, the bus will now begin performance testing under the oversight of TransMilenio. If the trials proceed as expected, passenger service is planned to start in January 2026. These tests will generate practical data on battery behaviour, energy consumption, safety, durability, and user experience in real operating conditions.

In addition to its zero-emission drivetrain, the bus incorporates Scania’s driver-assistance and safety systems (ADAS), offering an opportunity to evaluate how such technologies function in Latin American urban traffic.
