Midway Milestone: How the 2Zero Partnership is advancing toward zero-emission road mobility across Europe

The European Commission has published an independent evaluation study on the 2Zero Partnership, highlighting its progress and impact in advancing the EU’s ambitious sustainability goals.

The evaluation identifies key strengths of 2Zero in achieving its mission:

  • The partnership’s systemic approach to address vehicle innovation, charging infrastructure, smart grid integration, circularity, and life cycle assessments.
  • Strong focus on technological innovation and market-ready solutions
  • Ability to foster direct and cross-border collaboration among diverse stakeholders—such as the automotive industry, logistics companies, research centres, and universities—bringing together varied expertise to enhance the planning and implementation of innovative solutions.
  • Creating a cohesive framework by integrating European Technology Platforms such as ERTRAC, EPoSS, SNET, ALICE, and Batteries Europe

The 2Zero Partnership’s work in the road transport sector significantly contributes to Europe’s sustainable mobility, ensuring Europe’s leadership in this crucial area that is essential to the EU Single Market.

The evaluation study’s methodology used a rigorous combination of quantitative data analysis and qualitative research from the partnership’s project portfolio, strategic documents, and existing reports. It also incorporated insights from interviews with representatives from 2Zero and the European Commission, ensuring a comprehensive and balanced evaluation.
The evaluation will be incorporated into the Interim Evaluation of Horizon Europe (HE) activities, which is part of the European Commission’s broader efforts to assess the program’s role in driving a Green Transition.
