Introducing ODYSSEV project to the 2Zero community

We are pleased to welcome ODYSSEV (Optimised DYnamicsof high voltage powertrains: developing Sustainable Systems for Electric Vehicles) to the 2Zero Partnership portfolio, a forward-looking project set to accelerate innovation in high-voltage electric vehicle powertrains.

ODYSSEV represents a total investment of €5,999,810, fully supported by the European Union. Launched in January 2026 and running until June 2029, the project brings together 14 partners from 8 countries, coordinated by Fundación CIRCE Centro de Investigación de Recursos y Consumos Energéticos.

As Europe advances towards climate neutrality and zero-emission mobility, the rapid growth in EV adoption continues to highlight key challenges, particularly around driving range, charging speed, efficiency, and cost. ODYSSEV addresses these challenges by developing advanced high-voltage powertrain technologies designed to deliver improved performance while reducing system complexity and overall costs.

At the heart of the project is an innovative hybrid inverter concept that combines the strengths of RC-IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs to ensure optimal efficiency under varying load conditions. In parallel, ODYSSEV introduces a reconfigurable battery pack capable of operating at lower voltages (400–800V) during charging and delivering higher voltages (1200–1600V) during driving. The project also focuses on optimising electric motor design to overcome challenges such as partial discharge and current harmonics, while advancing developments in on-board charging, system packaging, and overall powertrain control.

The project aims to demonstrate its high-voltage powertrain integrated into a real vehicle under real driving conditions, providing tangible evidence of its benefits for future EV applications. Expected outcomes include a 30% reduction in energy losses, a 20% increase in driving range, up to 20% cost reductions in power electronic modules, and significantly improved fast-charging capabilities, enabling charging from 20% to 80% in around 10 minutes using 350kW chargers.

We look forward to following ODYSSEV’s progress and its contribution to shaping the next generation of electric vehicles.
