2Zero Work Programme Selection Overview
With a European Union contribution of EUR 615 million, the 2Zero partnership is expected to improve clean mobility of people and goods, and ensure future European leadership in innovation, production and services, with a specific focus on the wide development of zero-emission, affordable, and user-centric solutions with a ‘system’ approach (linking vehicles, infrastructures and the grid).
Lasting for 7 years, the first Climate, Energy and Mobility Work Programme 2021-2022 has been adopted by European Commission on 15 Dec 2021. A total of seven (7) 2Zero topics were included for a budget of EUR 197 million. The main areas of intervention, in line with the 2Zero SRIA (Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda), focused on:
- Medium and long-range zero emission Heavy Duty Vehicles and electric Bus Rapid Transit systems;
- Recharging infrastructures and integration into the grid (e.g. smart charging, Vehicle to Grid);
- Vehicles technologies and propulsion solutions (e.g. power electronic, e-motors);
- Life Cycle Assessment and circularity.
Under the 2021 call 39 project proposals have been submitted in 4 different topics requesting a budget of over EUR 290 million: 12 projects are being funded for a total of EUR 94 million.

Under the 2022 call 24 project proposals have been submitted in 3 different topics requesting a budget of over EUR 203 million: 8 projects are being funded for a total of over EUR 104 million.
